This morning in reading 1 John Chapter 5,
five verses popped out at me. For this poem, I am going to list them down and then make my comments to process them. The Lord says “whatever you ask according to My will, will be given freely to you.” So this morning I am asking the Lord to open my heart and my mind to the truth of His Word; and I pray that His truth that is revealed, will be given to every person who is reading this poem. So here goes. “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world - our faith in Jesus Christ.” I John 5:4 What comes to mind is Hebrews 11:1-3, “Now faith is the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.” I invite you take a tour of Hebrews 11, the Hall of Faith Is quite fascinating. Now let me continue on to the next verse that struck me. “For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one.” I John 5:7-8 Bearing witness is an act of giving evidence to confirm the events that happened and the things that were said. In the Kingdom of Heaven, where the angels live, it’s the Holy Trinity - The Holy Spirit, Father and Son; in the World, where we humans live, it’s the Spirit, water and the blood. What comes to mind is Romans 3:23-26, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as an atonement by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His patient endurance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.” God alone is good, and it’s only through our keeping of HIS Word (Jesus Christ) that we can be grafted INTO God - our Creator who knows no sin. Which leads me into the next verse - “And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.” I John 5:11-12 It truly is that simple. Jesus alone is the bridge who brings man back into relationship with our God. You see, all mankind will die. Every person who has breath will experience temporary death, but only the Children of God will go on to live eternally with Him. You see, Jesus is the Seed that was promised to us in Genesis 3:15. And it’s from this Seed that the new man will grow. Through Him, we take off the old and put on the new. Now this next verse is the one that really stumped me. Listen to this. “If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin which does not lead to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that. All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not leading to death.” I John 5:16-17 I have to say, I read that verse over and over again. At first it did not make sense. I wondered to myself, "Did John say that some sin does not lead to death?" "Did John get it wrong?" Then the Holy Spirit touched my heart, and His Word was illuminated to me. I heard God say, “Yes I Am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake and remembers your sins no more.” Isaiah 43:25 You see, God expresses unfailing love and faithfulness. Everything He does goes back to His character. When we are covered by the blood of Christ, God's Holy Spirit comes to live inside of us. And since God has no sin, the sin of the world is not in us. And that brings me to verse number 5 - “We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him.” I John 5:18 Does this mean that God's people do no wrong? No! Not at all! It just means that God's children understand the true testimony of Jesus Christ. We understand that we have been thoroughly saved through the Spirit, water and the blood, and that we have been made righteous through Jesus Christ. And because we love God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit we guard our hearts, and keep our eyes focused on Christ, the author and finisher of our faith. Because we love God, we prophecy and keep His commandments. We offer our lives as a living sacrifice by dying to self and picking up our cross. We serve God with all our hearts, and we work diligently as His watchmen. I pray this poem will be a blessing to someone else. I pray these words will touch their hearts.
