Is your heart an oven
blazing with intrigue? Does your heart burn for the flesh, or for Christ the King? Are you an adulterer, always aflame with lust? Or are you a faithful wife, in whom I can trust? Is your oven hot, while the baker is kneading dough? Be careful - Just a little leaven, will make the whole cake explode. What is on your counter? What have you prepared? Is it the Bread of Life, or the catch that’s been ensnared? Is it Manna from Heaven, or is it the quail I dropped off? Is it your daily provision, or the hoarding of not enough? Where do you put your trust? What is your centerpiece? What do you pay attention to when it’s time to sit and eat? Do you see my reflection, or do you see your own? Do you have a heart of flesh, or a heart of stone? What have you purposed? What harvest has come from your seed? Are your ingredients fresh and plentiful, or do they rot with greed? There’s always a choice for pride, or for right and meek - There’s always a season to harvest what we bake and eat. Above all things, the heart is the most deceitful. It’s temperature if full of spots. Who can understand? The distinction between cold and hot? If we don’t know what we are baking, it’s possible to get it wrong. We may turn up the oven, when it was supposed to be on warm. If you do not understand what is written in this whimsical poem, then chances are you are still wandering - feeling all alone. You may need to stop chewing on the fleshly bone - the one full of self - “I can do it on my own”. But if you feel a quiver running through your spine, these words may hold value - because His Spirit is alive. Inspired by Hosea 7:4-7 Exodus 16 Jeremiah 17:9
