How is it possible
to have fellowship with God, when you focus your attention all on yourself? When your world gets tough, and you feel all alone - That’s his invitation for you to draw in close. But all too often, it becomes “all about me.” Instead of being filled with his Spirit, you fall into self-pity. It’s the most horrific thing to see - a faithful believer who focuses on “Me” Internalized pride - it’s a travesty. We don’t even realize how deceived we can be. Overwhelmed by feelings, all you seem to think, “Is God if you loved me, you would give me some peace.” But what you fail to realize, is that God is in control. He knows what your going through, and he still wants more. He wants you to get out of your own way. He wants you to seek him, and to trust and obey. He wants you to draw in, and come closer to him. He wants you to let go of all that separates you from him. I believe this is the hardest thing, because it defies our humanity. Everything we’re feeling is not always true. It’s a soul condition under Satan’s rule. Its hard to focus in on Gods Word as the only truth - when all we feel is lonely, so angry and hurt. It’s hard to replace our thoughts, with his thoughts - when all we know is that people are supposed to treat us well. We can’t understand why someone would do what they do. How can someone treat us with so little ado? God tells us to be angry but do not sin, and Jesus tells us to rest and not be weary, by yoking ourselves to him. “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy- think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me- put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you always.” Philippians 4:4-9
