Genesis 5 is all about the two Seth Lines -
the Seth Time Line and the Seth Blood Line, and both lead to Noah, and the promise of God - the seed that would come through the woman. The Seth timeline looks like this: Adam lived for 930 years, and then he died. Seth lived for 912 years and then he died. Enosh lived for 905 years, and then he died. Kenan lived for 910 years, and then he died. Mahalalel lived for 895 years, and then he died. Jared lived for 962 years, and then he died. Enoch lived for 365 years, and during his time he walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away. But before God took him, he had Methuselah who lived the longest of any human. Methuselah lived a total of 969 years, and then he died. Lamech lived 777 years, and then he died. When Lamech had lived 182 years, he had a son. He named him Noah and said, “He will comfort us in the labor and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the Lord has cursed.” After Noah was 500 years old, he became the father of Shem, Ham and Japheth.” Genesis 5:1-32 From these passages we can see the timeline of Seth that existed from Adam to Seth to Noah. Now let’s look at Seth’s Blood Line. There were 9 generations between Adam and Noah, including Enoch, who did not die, but was taken up by God. Also, it is so interesting to me that the descendants of Cain included many of the same names. It’s almost like a parallel universe. Lamech, the son born after seven generation of Cain, walked in the wilderness, as a nomad and vagabond, without God, and without a home. Lamech is the first man to take two two wives, and believe in his heart, that everything that he said was like God. This Lamech was definitely a little “g” god. On the other hand, Lamech, who was born to the line of Seth, the grandson of Enoch, the man who walked so faithfully with God that he was taken up without ever experiencing physical death. This Lamech gave birth to Noah, who also walked faithfully with God. Noah believed God, and did everything that God said, he even built a boat when there had never been rain; and he endured the scrutiny that came! God prepared Noah and his family, to be able to withstand the Flood. Isn't it promising that God is always saving a remnant! This Lamech lived 777 years - a number that expresses the fullness of God. If I had to guess the lifeline of the other Lamech it would probably be 666, the number of the beast. Scripture says, “This is the written account of Adam’s family line. When God created mankind, he made them in the likeness of God. He created them male and female and blessed them. And he named them “Mankind” when they were created.” Genesis 5:1-2 This poem is about the two Seth Lines: his timeline and his bloodline; the offspring of the woman that would crush the head of Satan. Both lines were spoken by the very Word of God.
